Every Rose Has Its Thorn…

Actually, every rose has many thorns.  Just take a look at our fingers after Valentine’s day and you will see the cuts to prove it.  If women only knew what it took for them to get that lovely arrangement full of roses; they would appreciate them a lot more. And men would appreciate why they cost so much! By the time customers get the roses, they no longer have their thorns. The tedious job of de-thorning a rose has been left to someone else. So why do us floral designers put up with the nicks and cuts from stripping roses of their thorns? There are many reasons. Roses are available year round and in more colors than any other flower. This makes them extremely versatile. They can stand alone and look stunning. But, they can also be combined with pretty much any other flower to create striking arrangements. Perhaps we put up with the thorns because they are a reminder of human nature. Many of us have thorns…our defenses, walls to protect the most precious part of us. But like a rose, if you can get past the thorns you are left with something beautiful and well worth the time.dsc_0470_0dsc_1184Hot Pink Peonies and roses

Here Comes the Bride

We decided to get a booth at the Bridal Extravaganza in January. It was fun and exhausting. Our mission…to find a way to stand out among the crowd of hundreds of other booths. What did we have going for us?

Great Friends and Family! They were willing to bring us lunch, give us a break, and talk to brides. We couldn’t have done it without our “COD” Kyle. He has the social gift and talked to so many people. He may have called some flowers by the wrong name (pretty sure black magic roses got called death roses), but he was great at putting exhausted brides at ease and making them laugh.

Unique Designs! After a long day of walking to booth after booth, flowers can all start to look the same. We wanted to offer some fresh, modern takes on bouquets, boutonnieres and arrangements.

Black and White Tie Affair

As we say, wedding florals should reflect your own sense of style. In some way, they should show who you are. This wedding was just that for one couple. They wanted a modern, artsy wedding. Married on a yacht, all black and white, and wanted the flowers to be the same with some artistic flair. It is always fun to design, especially when the bride and groom are willing to go outside the box and go for unique expression. These photos show off just how beautiful monochromatic can be!!
