Let Them Eat Cake

Every time we set up for a wedding we always say the same thing…we could never be a wedding cake decorator.  They have to create with the most fragile of substances and deliver it in one piece.  The cakes are always beautiful works of art.  And I am certain I could not handle the pressure.  But one thing I love to do…sort of a guilty pleasure…is to add fresh flowers to their masterpieces. It’s as if someone had to do the hard part and I get to come in and do the fun part.  It’s a small moment of creativity that puts the final touch on the wedding decor.  So here are some of the cakes we have had the privilege (and trust from the bakers and brides) to add our fresh flowers to.

Fresh flowers can help enhance the theme of your wedding.  Flowers can help create a woodsy, rustic feel.

A floral cascade is a way to add some volume and lots of color to the cake.

Even when the cake has designs and pattern, a floral cascade can be just the right touch.

Sometimes floral clusters are the perfect touch of color.

Purple and blue flowers bring a soft pop of color to the cake.

Peonies and roses make soft clusters with volume.

A single large bloom, like this peony, can be the perfect topper with smaller clusters on the tiers.

Clusters of ranunculus are perfect for smaller touches of color.

For a romantic feel, go for a monochromatic look with the flowers the same shade as the cake.

Some brides like a bolder look for their wedding cake and have color in the icing, design and ribbon.  Flowers can soften the look or create an even bolder statement.

For a colorful and detailed cake design, a simple cluster of flowers on the top create the perfect balance.

This cake had such beautiful, intricate ribbonry that a simpler topper and cluster of cymbidium orchids were all it needed.

Instead of a large topper on this colorful cake, flowers around the base created a soft, but dramatic look.

And when the cake is a really bold color, small clusters of fresh flowers can break up the tiers and soften the look.

No matter what your personal style, fresh flowers can add to the bakers beautiful masterpiece in a way that helps achieve the overall look and feel of your wedding.  So when its time to “let them eat cake”, let them eat a work of art!
